Amongst the material in the feed that convinces me to keep using the nickname Meph, there's this that keeps me rooting for eastward movement. Had a look at the civilian service component mentioned here, which seemed a reasonable compromise for conscientious objectors and seems more so when reading even the summary. For those who I'm guessing use the argument that civilian service frees up others to enter military service, one can no longer say "there is no need" because it's no longer "might be," especially around a брат that's pulled this mess before and is doing so again.
